Another Pius St. Incident
I heard a crash.Sitting on the the couch after a busy day, and a reasonble dose of chicken wings and beer, I heard a crash. Now, this isn’t the first time i’ve heard a crash outside my bedroom window. During the two years that i’ve have lived on Pius St. I have heard/seen 4 accidnets, all of which occured almost directly infront of my house. Ironically enough, two of the four were people that I knew. Judging by the sound of the crash I knew that there was a possibility that it could have been my car! It is usually parked either infront of, or very close to the corner near my house. I don’t drive it more than 1-2 times a month and tend to forget its exact location in the surrounding area. After looking out the window, I realized that there was in-fact another accidnet out front of my residence. I grabbed my phone and proceeded to head downstairs to call 911. When I opened the door I saw a late model Chevy Caviler stopped sideways on my one-way street. The engine was still running and the driver was attempting to put the car in reverse to drive away. A young lady (Lucy) had been in the car behind the driver at the time and had just gotten out of her car to see if the driver of the crashed car was injured. She approached the vehicle cautiously. It appered that the driver didnt’ really respond when she asked if he was ‘ok’. She had already called 911 before getting out of her car and coinsidentally, there was a cop driving up 18th st. that was able to stop and ‘check things out’.The driver, still in the car, refused assistance when the EMT’s arrived and proceeded to sit in his car until the cop got some back up. A half-hour later, back up, and a few tow truck drivers arrived. They got the driver out of his vehicle and gave him a field sobriety test. Truthfully, this is really waht we were all waiting to see… The guy failed miserably, although he didn’t appear to be your typical ‘drunk’, more of a dazed look on his face. That may have been from slamming his head into the steering wheel, but who knows? So, they towed his car and took the driver into custody. Fortunately, no one was injured, (except for the tree out front) and none of the cars owned by people that live on the street were damaged.I can’t recall exaclty but I think that all of the accidents have happened since they made Pius St. a One Way Street. Better or Worse?
